1938  Born in Farsley (Leeds).
 
1954  Enrolled at Bradford College, where he studied alongside a vibrant group of students, including David Hockney, Peter Kaye, David Oxtoby, Norman Stevens, and Michael Vaughan.

1958 Gained his Diploma in Commercial Art from Bradford.

Became a conscientious objector, due to his strong anti-nuclear beliefs and in response to a generally prevailing dissatisfaction with the continuation of National Service. He spent two years working on the land, after moving to Hastings with David Hockney, who worked as an orderly in the hospital.


1959  Returned to Bradford and began work on a  demolition site.

1960  Moved to London and started at the Royal College of Art.

1962  Married Eva Kalnins and first son Daniel was born.

1963  Awarded an Abbey Minor Travel Scholarship.

Left RCA and returned to Bradford.

Did the first of several panels using
commercial enamels on board.

Showed work during this time at the Young

Contemporaries and the London Group.


1964 Joined Norman Stevens and Norman Adams  to teach at Manchester College of Art.

Loker’s freestanding and wall reliefs such as Three Forms (1967) and the freestanding piece Untitled (1967) were made in the college studio.
 
1965 Second son Simon was born.

1968  Returned to London.

Visiting lecturer at Maidstone and Berkshire School of Art.

Lived and worked in Notting Hill, London.

Did a residency for a term at Trent
Polytechnic and produced one of his
key works, Six Section Horizontal, a
piece 17 metres long which was shown
in 1970 at the ICA in conjunction
with his first solo show at the Angela
Flowers Gallery.

1970  
Divorced from first wife and moved to large warehouse in East London.

First solo exhibition at Angela Flowers
Gallery, London, Horizontals and Drawings.

1975  Visiting lecturer at Middlesex Polytechnic to 1989.

1976  Moved to an old school building in the Brick Lane area of East London.

Visiting lecturer with Martin Naylor (sculptor) at the International School, Nice.

1980  Bought part of a large coach house in Norfolk with sculptors Kenneth Draper and John Ashworth, where he established a large studio and worked in both London and Norfolk.

1981  Touring exhibition by the Arts Council,  curated by Lewis Biggs, which travelled to: Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol; Newlyn Orion; Cartwright Hall, Bradford; Newcastle Polytechnic Gallery.

1983  Thriding painting commissioned for Watmoughs (Holdings) PLC – Horsforth, Leeds and publication of the sketch book used during its making.

1984 Solo Exhibition at Galerie du Monde, Hong Kong.

Series of paintings commissioned by C.A.S. for Essex General Hospital.

Third son Oliver was born. 

1986  Publication of Littered Ways (a suite of six woodblocks with poem).

Visited Prague and Budapest. This led
to a new series of work – Bloc and the
Crossover series.

1992  Double Crossover painting commissioned by Stanhope Developments for the ITN building (Norman Foster), Grays Inn Road,
London.

1993  Travelled in Morocco with Niel Bally – painted a series of watercolours in the desert around Tinfou.

1994  Winner of the Nordstern Award for best print  at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

1995  Moved to the Guiltcross Union Workhouse in Norfolk, where he and Emily Mayer established studios, workshops and living spaces. Continued to work between London and Norfolk.

1996  Travelled across Australia – painted Desert Landscapes and gathered information for many works over the next two years.

1997  Married sculptor and taxidermist Emily Mayer. 

2003  Spent three months working in Menorca – made the first Rolling  Closure and Re-entry works. 

2005 Committed to living and working full time in Norfolk
